After a long and what seemed like a never ending battle. The Kiveton Park & Wales Community Development Trust are delighted to announce that they have now finally taken ownership of the Old Colliery Offices.
When the colliery closed in 1994 ownership of the building was transferred from the National Coal Board to the then regional development agency Yorkshire Forward. Since then The Trust have been managing the building and at the same time negotiating with Yorkshire Forward to take ownership of the building for the community.
But then suddenly the present government disbanded Yorkshire Forward and the building was transferred once more this time to the Land Trust. Therefore negotiations had to be started all over again. After countless meetings, hundreds of telephone calls and emails we were finally notified by our solicitors that all the hard work had paid off and that we had finally secured ownership of the building and six acres of land for the community.
Ownership now gives us the opportunity to develop the site and take the building forward and turn it into a real centre for community activities.
