BEM Award

BEM awardSteph Hryschko chair of the Kiveton Park & Wales Community Development Trust , has been awarded the British Empire Medal for services to the community.

Steph said she was stunned to find she had been included in the Queens birthday honours list that was published back in June.

After university Steph left the area to pursue a career in teaching, some 20 years ago she returned to Kiveton Park. In 1998 she went to an event at The Old Colliery Offices  where she met the Community Development Trust team.

By the time she went home that afternoon, she had become the Trust secretary. Fifteen years on Steph is now the Chair, putting in 60-hour weeks, all unpaid.“We get to make a real difference,” she said. “I’ve always treated it as a job, giving it that same commitment.”

 

The evening of Friday the 25th October 2013 was a special evening down at the Old Colliery Offices as Steph  received her British Empire Medal

In a short ceremony the BEM was presented to Steph on behalf of her majesty the Queen by the Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire Mr David Moody.

Also in attendance were the Worshipful Mayor and Mayoress of Rotherham, Kevin Barron MP, Chair of Wales Parish council,  Cllr Micheal Brabbs along with Steph’s close family, staff ,trustees and members of the public.

The enjoyable evening was then rounded off with a buffet and drinks.
