Sports facility update

sports 2UPDATE ON THE PROPOSED COLLIERY ROAD SPORTS FACILITY

It is understandable that many of you will by now be wondering what is happening with this development.

And you would be correct in thinking such things as……..

“ You said you were going to do it  and then it didn’t happen”

 “Nothing ever happens in Kiveton”

“There’s never anything for young people to do”

SO THIS IS WHERE WE ARE.

March 2014   Business plan put in place along with architects plans.

Sept 2014  Representatives from KIVETON PARK FC and major South Yorkshire community and schools sports provider ACTIVE REGEN Join with the trust to push forward the development.

October 2014    Planning permission granted by Rotherham Borough Council for a new all weather 3G facility with a playing area that can be used as either 3 x 5 a side pitches or a 7 a side pitch.

A survey of a 10% cross section of the community is completed with 90% responding in favour of the new development. With the overwhelming opinion being that to bring an all weather facility to the community would be an invaluable asset.

Further support in the form of endorsements were received from the Rotherham Health and Wellbeing Trust , The Rotherham Borough Council cabinet member for Business, Regeneration and Sports development and South Yorkshire police

November 2014   HARSCO Steel of Rotherham become involved with the development and offer a huge boost of £200k in kind support of work and materials.

Dec 2014  STRATTA homes agreed to donate adjoining land between the current run down sports facility and the Trent Villas, giving us the opportunity to develop a slightly larger 9 a side facility to Football Association standards as opposed to the 7 a side facility and a park and ride facility for the nearby railway station.

April 2015   SPORT ENGLAND ( Inspired facilities) offer £75K subject to the remainder of the funding being in place.

May 2015     Bid sent to “POWER OF CHANGE” for the remainder (275K) of funding still needed.

Sept 2015    Building work will begin if the last piece of the funding jigsaw is in place.

So, even though things seem to have gone quiet, as you can see, we have been beavering away in the background because we are absolutely committed to make this happen because:

It is not just about refurbishing a facility, it’s about improving people’s lives, it would be central in providing a place to develop confidence, teamwork, discipline, increasing opportunities, increasing access and improving people’s health and wellbeing.

Happy Birthday Kivo-ebiz

ebiz

Its a Happy 10th Birthday to one of our trading arms Kivo-ebiz

Kivo-ebiz was a bit of a “light bulb” moment  in 2005 when one of the Trustees, Steph Hryschko, decided to clear out her garage and sell the contents on e-bay. A little daunted by all she didn’t know, Steph thought there would be hundreds of others in the community that felt the same – they would like to sell things on e-bay but didn’t have the confidence or skills.

So Kivo-ebiz was launched as a service selling goods for the local community but also providing training classes on buying and selling on e-bay. Until 2009 it was completely managed by volunteers who go out to peoples’ homes, photograph their items, list them on e-bay and package & post them once sold.

The enterprise won £15,000 in a “dragon’s den” event shortly after its launch and in 2008 went on to win a number of other awards.

Collieries War Memorial Re-dedication Service

10358884_779969788734004_1141974206652148913_nOn a day blessed with fine and sunny weather the re-dedication of the Kiveton Park Collieries War Memorial took place on Sunday 5th October.

The Service was led by the Rev Gary Schofield, assisted by Bob Lund.   Chair of the Development Trust Steph Hryschko introduced the proceedings which was attended by many members of the community along with our local MP Sir Kevin Barron and the Lord and Lady Mayor of Rotherham.

The music for the service was kindly supplied by the Maltby Miners Welfare brass band along with a wonderful contribution from the Wales High School singers.  Children from local schools also contributed to the event by creating artwork which was all put on display on the day. Many of the Children also wrote letters to the fallen, some of which were read out by the children themselves during the service.

The Chair of the Parish council ( Cllr Michael Brabbs ) read out the names of the sixty one men on the memorial and this was followed by a scout leader playing the last post as a Union Jack was lowered and a lighted miners lamp was hung beneath the memorial.

The Memorial is one of only two left in the country still in situ on a former colliery building, the other being in Durham. Making it the only one left in Yorkshire.

The Development Trust along with the Kiveton and Wales History Society secured funding from the War Memorials Trust to employ a specialist to renovate the memorial and the re-dedication service was the culmination of that work.

Please see our photo Gallery for further images from the day.

Proposed re-furbishment of sports facility

sports 2The Kiveton Park & Wales Community Development Trust are currently planning to refurbish the tarmac sports courts situated at the side of the Old Colliery Offices and would like your help, support and feedback.

The court was provided some fifteen years ago by the development trust for the community to use.  Although still in regular use at weekends, evenings and in particular during the school holidays time has not been kind to the facility and after fifteen years it is now in urgent need of repair.   The proposal put forward by the Trust is to refurbish the court bringing it right bang up to date with an all weather 3g artificial grass pitch, brand new floodlighting and state of the art fencing.  The layout of the new area will enable it to be used as three separate pitches or one large pitch. Eventually changing rooms and pavilion with spectator gallery are hoped to be provided to compliment a facility built for the 21st century.  The Trust is keen to get the local community onboard and in particular get their views on the project.

Therefore as part of the inaugural Kiveton & Wales Table football competition to be held in the Village Hall on Saturday 11th October there will also be the plans of the development on show for the community to view. At the same time you will be able to ask any questions and give your feedback to the team.

So please come along and support the project and let us know what you think.

Volunteer of the year 2011

Copy of IMG_5603Once again Kiveton Park & Wales has reason to be proud as we are delighted to announce that Arthur Whiteway of Queens Avenue Wales, has been voted Rotherham Community Awards volunteer of the year. Receiving his award at a gala evening held at the Carlton Park hotel  Rotherham in November.

Arthur attended the evening with his wife Peggy and  daughter Ann along with Steph Hyrschko of the Kiveton Park & Wales Community Development Trust.  Steph said “We all had our fingers crossed and waited with baited breath for the result and when Arthurs name was read out as the winner we were all over the moon”  Arthur really deserves this award. He has been an active resident of Kiveton Park all his life.  Over the last few years his volunteering has been focused mainly around the Old Colliery Offices.  But what is most remarkable about Arthur is that he is 84 years old and is a true example and inspiration to us all.

Arthur was unaware that he had been nominated until he received  a letter from Voluntary Action Rotherham saying that he had made the final three.  Arthur said it was a real surprise to find someone had nominated me and even more of a surprise to go on and win it.
