Euphony is a 'word of mouth' marketing company dealing, mainly, in telephone services for residential, mobile and business customers but also offering cheaper gas and electric services.

This is something that we, as a Trust, would not normally be interested in and initially dismissed the idea. However, when we researched further, we identified that this could be a moderate income opportunity for us or a very larger one depending on the amount of time we were prepared to put into it.

Euphony is among the top five telephone service providers and one of the fastest growing companies in the UK. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that, unlike others, it spends no money on advertising, and therefore frees up millions of pounds for 'consultants' to recommend the service. A number of entrepreneurial people have made small fortunes by investing £200 to become consultants or a 'mini franchise' of Euphony. Then someone realised it could be an even better opportunity for charities/voluntary groups/clubs as they often have a large membership who are happy to help by trying the service. As a Community Trust, we would never recommend anything that would not benefit our members. We decided to try out the service and all our board members signed up as Euphony customers. We all made substantial savings on our phone bills (smallest savings £5, largest £30 per month!!)

We have tended to concentrate on the EU18 service which gives free calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to all UK landlines and 28 countries worldwide for just £5.99 per month but only £1.00 per month for the first 6 months. The Euphony business service is equally fantastic and brings even bigger bonuses for the Trust. We have advertised it in our newsletter to 3,500 households and had a huge response.

How does this make money for us?

The income plan is quite complex and we have been pleasantly surprised by many additional bonuses that we hadn't expected. Basically you earn £10 for every customer that tries the service plus a £100 bonus if you have 3 in the first 40 days. You also receive 'royalty' income every month, earning 4% of all your customers' call bills. If you recommend another consultant, you start to build a network that quickly escalates your earnings. It would be very difficult not to get your initial investment back with this - we did in the first week. It takes 2 minutes to fill out the form for your customer and they will be delighted.
